Arun Jaitley re-appointed as finance minister

NEW DELHI: Union minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday made his return to the finance ministry after being away for three months, recuperating from a kidney surgery. Jaitley had undergone a renal transplant operation on May 14.

He also took charge of the corporate affairs ministry.

“The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has directed to assign the portfolios of the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs to Arun Jaitley,” an official statement said.

Since his surgery, Jaitley has been staying in controlled environment as per the doctors' advice.

Railway and coal minister Piyush Goyal had been handling the finance portfolio in Jaitley's absence.

Jaitley has been quite active on social media -- writing blogs on various economic and non-economic issues, like National Register for Citizens (NRC) in Assam, over four-decades of Emergency, No-confidence Motion in Parliament, Rafael fighter jet deal, and GST, even while he was away from his office in the North Block.
He also attended the Rajya Sabha for the election of Deputy Chairman on August 9 in what was his first public appearance in over four months.
