Earlier, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president S Thirunavukkarasar, who visited the hospital on Monday afternoon, told reporters that Karunanidhi's condition had deteriorated since morning. “Doctors are treating him. We will have to pray that he gets better," said Thirunavukkarasar.
Minutes later, the crowd outside the hospital began to swell. Karunanidhi's wife, Dayalu Ammal, also came to the hospital. This was her first visit to the hospital since the five-time chief minister of Tamil Nadu was admitted on July 29. She was brought to the hospital in a wheelchair by her son M K Tamilarasu. Other family members and senior party leaders were also present.
By the time the bulletin was released, there were more than 200 people waiting outside the hospital, raising slogans “ezhunthuvaa thalaivaa.. polaam polaam arivalayam polaam...gopalapuram polaam ….” (Get up and come. Let’s go to Arivalayam, let’s go to Gopalapuram).
