Former India Test captain Wadekar passes away

NEW DELHI: Former India Test captain and chief selector Ajit Wadekar passed away at the age of 77 in Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital after suffering from prolonged illness, on Wednesday.

The left-handed batsman Wadekar will always be remembered for India's historic Test series wins over West Indies and England in 1971 that came under his leadership.

Wadekar made his Test debut in 1966 against West Indies at his home ground in Mumbai. He scored 2113 runs including 14 fifties and a lone century in the 37 Test matches he played during his eight-year long career.
Wadekar also represented India in just two ODIs, scoring 73 runs with one fifty.
