Here's how you can help flood-hit people of Kerala

The flood situation in Kerala continues to be grim with death toll rising to 67. The Met department has sounded a red alert for all 14 districts.

While NGOs, state governments and the Centre are doing all they can to help the people in Kerala, you can also do your bit by donating money and other essential items.

Kerala CM, Pinarayi Vijayan, has urged people to contribute to the relief fund.


He released a statement asking for help and gave details for contributing to the CM's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). You can send money by cheque/DD or internet banking. Here are the details:

District collectors of Wayanad and Ernakulam have also appealed to the public to donate money and other essential items.

Social media is flooded with messages supporting campaign for collection of relief materials to be transported to the people living in the flood-hit areas.
A campaign has been launched on social media platforms "#DoForKerala" by Anbodu Kochi, a social media collective in association with Ernakulam district administration. As many as four collection points have been arranged by the group in the city, namely, Weavers Village in Rosscote Lane, opposite Trivandrum Club and Sri Mulam Club at Vazhuthacaud and B'hub, Mar Ivanios Vidyanagar, Nalanchira. People can contact the district coordinators by calling on the numbers 9809700000, 9895320567, 9544811555.
"Infosys and UST Global have also arranged collection points of relief materials," said Sobha Viswanath, founder of Weavers Village. The team is collecting bed sheets, sleeping mats, blankets, clothes, bathing towel, rusk, biscuits, water (only 20 litre cans), rice, sugar, salt, tea or coffee powder, pulses, packed provisions, ORS packets or electrolytes, water purifying chlorine tablets, antiseptic lotion, mosquitoes repellents, anti-fungal powder, bleaching powder or lime powder, baby diapers, adult diapers, sanitary napkins, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, washing soap, candles, matchboxes, school bag, notebooks, pencil box and pens.
