Ready to accept Stalin as leader if DMK takes me back: Alagiri

MADURAI: Expelled DMK leader and former Union minister M K Alagiri on Thursday said he is ready to accept his younger brother and party president MK Stalin as his leader if the party takes him back.

“I am ready to accept Stalin as my leader if they take me back into the DMK," Alagiri said while speaking to reporters outside his home here.

Waiting in wings for years, Stalin finally takes over reins of DMK

At a DMK general council meeting held in party headquarters in Chennai, general secretary K Anbazhagan declared the election of late DMK chief M Karunanidhi’s son M K Stalin as its president and Duraimurugan as its treasurer. The party president’s post fell vacant following the death of Karunanidhi, who had held the post for 49 years since 1969.

He said the DMK should realise that the general body alone was not the party.
He said all arrangements were being made to make the scheduled peace march to late DMK president M Karunanidhi’s grave on Marina Beach on September 5 a grand success.
“We are not facing any problem from the ruling party regarding the arrangements,” he said.
Alagiri was expelled from the party in 2014, when Karunanidhi was the party president.
He had earlier warned of "disastrous consequences" + for the DMK if he was not readmitted into the party.
