Buses ferrying TRS men turn into mobile bars

HYDERABAD: Buses and tractors ferrying TRS workers from various districts to Kongara Kalan near Ibrahimpatnam for TRS’s Pragathi Nivedana meet were turned into ‘mobile bars’. Liquor was served to attendees on school and TSRTC buses, which were pressed into service for ferrying party supporters. As the videos and pictures of liquor distribution went viral on social media, the opposition parties — Congress and BJP —came down heavily on TRS leaders. In the videos, TRS workers going to attend the meet were seen holding liquor bottles and consuming alcohol.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Dasoju Sravan said, “Telangana State Road Transport authorities should be ashamed that alcohol is being served in the official buses.”
BJP MLA Raja Singh said, “The video exposed TRS leaders mobilising public for the meeting at Kongara Kalan. They are openly drinking in the RTC buses and after consuming alcohol, they can resort to any anti-social activities. I request the chief minister to take action against the party leaders who attended the meeting after consuming alcohol.”
Meanwhile, bus commuters staged protest at Hanamkonda bus station in Warangal district, alleging that all the buses were diverted for the TRS meet.
TPCC spokesperson Manne Krishank told TOI, “Telangana government has openly violated laws by using RTC buses for political purposes. It is a wastage of money to use buses of 60 to 80 seat capacity for ferrying just ten people. We want to ask the government how have they paid RTC for the fuel and transport expenses. We also condemn TRS leaders for consuming alcohol on RTC buses. TRS is encouraging unethical practice in Telangana politics.”
