Bengaluru development minister Parameshwara went to Yellamma Koil Street in Ulsoor on the second day of his city inspection. Wearing a purple kurta and white trousers, he walked through the area pockmarked by potholes full of muddy, stagnant water and reached the stormwater drain packed with muck. He directed BBMP officials to ensure the drain was cleaned and it didn’t cause flooding.
He endorsed the idea of deputing a person exclusively to keep a tab on those dumping garbage into it. As he turned and walked into Yellamma Koil Street, those accompanying him realised that mud had stuck to his clothes.
"I work with my team day in & day out and consider them as my extended family. They’re my strength & am hurt by all the talk of my abuse of power to ill-treat them. The help extended to me was spontaneous. It should not be blown out of proportion," Parameshwara said.
Dy CM draws flak online
Local corporator Mamatha Saravana’s husband tried to clean it but the minister turned down his offer and turned instead to his gunman. The latter rushed in and cleaned the trousers with water while the DyCM pointedly looked the other way.
The entire episode was captured by electronic media personnel and within minutes, the clip was telecast and quickly found its way to social media platforms. Predictably, all hell broke loose.
V Nagaraj, a senior HR professional, tweeted: “Shame on you Dr Parameshwara. U shd apologise for ur disgusting ‘I am a mantri and am entitled’ mindset. If u don’t learn to respect ur staff very soon, people will identify u as ‘Kantri’ and not Mantri!”
