KCR banks on ‘lucky 6’, may call polls today

HYDERABAD: Amid high probability that Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao will recommend dissolution of the state assembly on Thursday to pave way for early elections, all ministers have been asked to be present in the capital for a cabinet meeting.

Earlier in the day, there was speculation that the cabinet would meet early Thursday morning. But till late on Wednesday, there was no clarity on the timing of the meeting. “The cabinet will meet at Pragathi Bhavan but it will not be at 6.45am or 6pm,” a senior official told TOI when asked to comment on reports that ministers were asked to be ready for the meeting around 6am.

The timing of the meeting on Thursday, September 6, is significant as the CM considers number 6 lucky for him, sources said.

Government sources said the only political agenda for the cabinet meeting is the resolution to dissolve the assembly.

Sources said the government was also likely to announce interim relief of 18-20% to state government employees on the basis of the recommendations of the Pay Revision Commission. “All MLAs, MLCs and bureaucrats have been told to be available by 11am on Thursday,” the sources said.
If some leaders are to be believed, the cabinet meeting will take place in the afternoon after which the CM will address the media at Pragati Bhavan before driving down to Raj Bhavan and handing over the resolution recommending dissolution of the assembly to governor ES L Narasimhan.
Later, the CM is likely to meet party MLAs, MPs, MLCs and others and address them at Telangana Bhavan. The meeting has tentatively been scheduled for 3.30pm. The governor is expected to ask KCR to continue as caretaker chief minister, as is the norm, the sources added.
Officially, however, neither the government nor the TRS have made any announcement about the cabinet meeting and the proposal to dissolve the assembly. “No one can question the political sagacity of our party leader and chief minister,” a TRS leader said.
