2 jawans, journo killed by Naxals in Dantewara

RAIPUR: A cameraman of Doordarshan and two security personnel were killed on Tuesday in a deadly Naxalite ambush in Nilavaya area near Aaranpur in Dantewada district in tribal Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

Police sources said that a three-member team of Doordarshan was shooting 'development works' in the Naxalite area while security forces were also carrying out search operation in the Nilavaya area, about 30 kilometres away from the district headquarters of Dantewada.

The rebels laid an ambush to target the security forces and the Doordarshan team was caught in the cross-fire. Initial reports said Doordarshan cameraman Achutanand Sahu, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and an assistant constable were killed in the attack while two others were injured.

The injured security personnel have been identified as ASI Rudra Pratap and assistant constable Manglu. Constable Vishnu Netam and assistant constable Rakesh Gautam were injured. The security personnel belonged to the district force.
Bastar deputy inspector general of Police P Sounderraj told reporters in Dantewada that the Doordarshan team from Delhi was in the area for the election coverage.
"We are giving information on the basis of preliminary reports. The actual sequence of events would be known only later," he said adding that additional reinforcements have been sent to the area for search and combing operation.
Two days ago, the Naxalites had triggered a powerful blast in Bijapur targeting a bullet proof vehicle of the CRPF, killing four personnel and critically injuring two.
