The company started pre-launch bookings of the car on October and, Hyundai said, it has already received more than 23,500 bookings before the launch.

The model comes in five variant options -- Dlite, Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta -- and the top-spec trim has been priced at Rs 5.46 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The mid-range Magna and Sportz variants are also available with factory-fitted CNG kit and Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) options as well. It is the first Hyundai car to get an AMT which, the company said, will be introduced in the Grand i10 and the Xcent soon.

The styling of the new Hyundai Santro looks inspired by the i10. It gets a large front grille which merges with the fog lamp housings and provides the car with an imposing look. The fog lamps are placed a bit higher while the headlamps look quite conventional. The side and rear profiles look clean with an interesting character line and small tail lamp clusters.

Inside, the new Santro offers a decent cabin space with impressive headroom. It gets a well-designed dashboard with a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the range-topping variant. Alongside the USB, Aux and Bluetooth, the touchscreen system also supports connectivity features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Mirror Link. A first-in-segment feature of the car is rear AC vents which are not available even in some segment above cars as of now.

Talking about the safety, the all-new Santro offers driver's airbag and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) as standard across the line-up. Also, the company said that 63 per cent of the car's architecture has been made of high strength steel, for better impact energy absorption capacity. The higher variants further get front passenger airbag, rear parking sensors and camera and seat belt pretensioner with load limiter. It also offers speed sensing auto door locks feature along with first-in-segment impact sensing auto door unlock.
Under the hood, the new Hyundai Santro gets a 1.1-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine which makes 69PS of power and 99Nm of torque. The optional CNG kit, however, lowers the output to 59PS and 84Nm. The car comes with a five-speed manual gearbox as standard while the optional AMT in mid-variants offer the ease of auto gear shift. The company claims that the car returns a fuel efficiency of 20.3kmpl in petrol and 30.48km/kg.
The all-new Hyundai Santro looks like a complete package for an entry-level car buyer and it will compete with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Tata Tiago, Renault Kwid and the new Datsun Go.
