Kohli will have a chance to achieve the feat when India kick-off their ODI campaign against the West Indies, starting October 21 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. India are scheduled to play five ODIs against the West Indies at home.
Kohli, who has 9779 runs in 211 ODIs at an average of 58.20, is just 221 runs short of reaching the milestone of 10,000 ODI runs.
If Kohli manages to score 221, he will become the fifth Indian batsman after master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Mahendra Singh Dhoni to achieve this incredible feat.

India batting legend Tendulkar is on top of the overall ODI run-scorers list with 18426 runs in ODIs. Behind him are Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara (14234 runs), Australia's Ponting (13704 runs), Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya (13430 runs), Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene (12650 runs), Pakistan's Inzamam-ul Haq (11739 runs), South Africa's Jacques Kallis (11579 runs), Sourav Ganguly (11363 runs), Rahul Dravid (10889 runs), West Indies’ Brian Lara (10405 runs), Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan (10290 runs) and MS Dhoni (10123 runs).
Indian captain Kohli is also the overall second highest-century getter in ODIs. He has 35 centuries under his belt.
Tendulkar is on top of the tally with 49 centuries to his name.
