The humanitarian assistance the state has been getting from individuals and collectives has far outstripped all other relief funds the state has so far received and is steadily growing with each passing day. Donations to CMDRF on Monday alone has been accounted at Rs 5.6 crore. Of the Rs 713.92 crore, Rs 132.62 crore was received through banks and UPIs linked with CMDRF gateway. Rs 43 crore came through PayTM as well as online contributions. Apart from this, CMDRF's account with State Bank of India got Rs 518.24 crore as deposits.
Interestingly, the chief minister's office has received cash, checks and drafts worth Rs 20 crore to the relief fund. The volume of monetary assistance received in government offices during holidays is yet to be assessed.
The facility for people contributing to the CMDRF fund is available on the government websitedonation.cmdrf.kerala.gov.in.
Apart from eight banks that were listed on the website earlier, four more banks have been included for sending donations to the fund.
Last year, when cyclone Ockhi ravaged the costal belt, CMDRF received Rs 104 crore. Though Kerala wanted the Centre to sanction Rs 7340.45 crore for a comprehensive rehabilitation package for fisher folks, the Centre sanctioned only Rs 133 crore as assistance. The Centre had then acknowledged the scale of the disaster only to the tune of Rs 169.63 crore and it was communicated that only an amount of Rs 111.70 crore can be legally allocated. An amount of Rs 133 crore was allocated as emergency assistance following Ockhi but it came with a caveat that the additional amount of Rs 21.3 crore will be deducted from future allocations.
