In a bid to tie the knot with Manjeet Singh (38), her married boyfriend, Angel aka Shashi and he hatched a plot to get his wife, Sunita, killed and roped in her mother's friend and his driver. Two shooters from UP were given a 'supari' of Rs 10 lakh following which they pumped three bullets into Sunita on October 29.
Delhi Police cracked the case with the arrest of Angel, her boyfriend and a man - who calls Angel his daughter - on Thursday. Her mother's friend and the driver were arrested on Friday. Two shooters are still at large.
Angel told cops she met Manjeet at a discotheque in Gurugram four years ago. She was waiting for her car late at night when two men began to harass her. Manjeet happened to be leaving the club and confronted the men after seeing Angel cry for help. Just as it happens in good old filmi romances, Angel fell for him and a romance that would ultimately take a life bloomed.
Angela and Manjeet exchanged numbers and started meeting often. They were madly in love when Angel, a budding actress, got to know that Manjeet was married. They, however, continued their relationship for four years during which Angel performed in around 20 Bollywood item numbers and did several cameos as well. Angel has a house in Delhi and Mumbai. Manjeet often left his house to live with her whenever she was in Delhi. He once left his house for almost five months and moved in with Angel at her Rani Bagh residence. He, however, went back to Sunita when she made repeated attempts to get in touch with him and threatened to kill herself and their 16-year-old daughter.
Things began to take a nasty turn since May this year when Angel's 'father', Rajeev (40), asked Manjeet to choose between Sunita and Angel. Rajeev is an industrialist and had named many of his industries on Angel's name. Things worsened when Sunita found objectionable pictures of Manjeet and Angel on the former's phone. Manjeet worked as a property dealer.
Manjeet then hatched a plot to eliminate Sunita. He had a meeting with Angela and Rajeev during which they decided to hire contract killers to bump off Sunita. Rajeev asked his driver Deepak to arrange for two shooters.
A supari was given for Rs 10 lakh and the first instalment of Rs. 50,000 was paid on October 23. The shooters made the first bid on Sunita a day before Karva Chauth but failed as they got 'busy' eating samosas at a stall near Sunita's house. However, they were able to take her down four days later on Auchandi-Bawana road as Manjeet gave a missed call and alerted them as soon as Sunita left home for school. The shooters were paid Rs 2 lakh after the murder.
The murder had created a panic in the area after which a special team led by ACP Saurabh Chandra and inspector Dharam Dev was formed. The cops got the first clue from Sunita's diary which they found during the search of the house. Sunita had detailed her troubled relationship with her husband and his affair with Angel in that diary. The police interrogated Manjeet after the murder came to fore but he tried to cook up stories and gave conflicting answers about his whereabouts. He, however, broke down when cops confronted him with his mobile locations and confessed.
